The COVID-19 pandemic continues to be a strong disruptor of clinical education. Despite this, many innovations in Pathology education show the adaptability of the field in incorporating novel technologies to supplement traditional Pathology pedagogy. Here we review instructional technology theory and highlight such innovations in the context of day-to-day training, teaching rounds, and trainee evaluations. The main challenge moving forward is recognizing the barriers and limitations of educational technologies, so that we can design better training models that blend traditional in-person with new technology-driven modalities.
At the end of this session participants will be able to:
- Characterize traditional pathology training and evaluation methods.
- Evaluate new instructional technologies – from theory to utility in pathology training.
- Recognize the limitations of traditional and novel educational pedagogy.
