    Dr. Russell Price is a RCPSC certified General Pathologist and Medical Director of Laboratories at Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre and the Simcoe Muskoka Regional Cancer Centre in Barrie Ontario. Dr. Price has held a number of senior medical administration positions including President of Medical Staff, Interim Chief of Staff and CCO Regional Cancer Pathology Lead for Simcoe Muskoka. He is Past President of the Ontario Association of Pathologists and former Chief Examiner in General Pathology for the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. Dr. Price has been a speaker on topics of Laboratory Management at the CAP Resident Review Course for ten years.

The presentation will define the roles and responsibilities of the Laboratory Medical Director, provide an overview of strategic planning, budgeting for laboratory operations, productivity strategies to ensure efficient and effective use of financial and staffing resources and the laboratory accreditation process. This aligns with the Leadership competency as integral physician participants in health care, organizing sustainable practices, making decisions about allocating resources and contributing to the effectiveness of the health care system.

At the end of the sessions, participants will be able to:

  • Describe a variety of laboratory productivity strategies
  • Summarize the laboratory accreditation process
