I am a diplomate of the American Board of Pathology and fellow of Royal College of Physicians of Canada in both anatomical pathology and neuropathology. After completing my residency from Dalhousie University in 2018, I did two years of neuropathology fellowship at Washington University in St. Louis. Thereafter, I joined University of Manitoba as assistant professor in pathology. I have received eight awards including one CIHR resident research award. I also received The Samuel R. McLaughlin Fellowship scholarship of $13, 000. I received in total $5000 + $3000 grant award during my residency and fellowship. I have in total 22 publications in peer reviewed journal, 12 as a first or last author.

Description

My presentation will give a brief introduction to anatomy. There will be molecular updates in CNS tumors specified in 2016 WHO Classification of Brain Tumors. It will outline various CNS entities with few examples including infectious, inflammatory, neoplastic, neurodegenerative and other CNS pathologies. It will show the precautionary measures that are taken on lethal infectious autopsy cases like Prion disease. There will be some slides on how to approach muscle and nerve cases, with examples.

Objectives

  1. Identify the important anatomical structures and landmarks in brain and spinal cord.
  2. To make differential diagnosis based on patient’s age/tumors location and correlate their differential with frozen section diagnosis.
  3. Grade brain tumors as per current WHO classification.
  4. Describe neurodegenerative disease and brain tumors with molecular features.
  5. Diagnose basic developmental malformations and recognize vascular malformation, causes of intracerebral hemorrhage, toxic effects of the CO/methanol poisoning, metabolic abnormalities, pathologic findings and common CNS infections, demyelinating disease.
