    Dr. Henike Rees

    Dr Henrike Rees received her Medical Degree at the University of Muenster in Germany. She completed her Anatomical Pathology residency at the University of Saskatchewan worked initially as an Anatomical pathologist in the Department of Pathology at the Royal University Hospital, and later at Saskatoon City Hospital where her clinical interests and work are focused on breast pathology, cytology and quality assurance.  Additional interests include global medicine and wellness.  She was a Royal College Examiner in Anatomical pathology for 7 years and a member of the Anatomical Pathology Specialty Committee for 6 years.  She is a member of the CAP section on Humanities and International Health, the CAP-ACP National Specialty Network on the Environment and the Workload and Human Resource committee.  As of January 2021 she is the first Departmental Wellness Director of the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine in Saskatchewan.

Description

Review of the terminology used in QA, the quality measures used in surgical pathology, communication strategies and challenges, ADASP recommendations and Pan Canadian QA guidelines, provide examples of a variety of scenarios to demonstrate an organized approach to practical and common QA and patient safety issues in surgical and/or cytopathology

Objectives

  1. Describe the basic elements of quality assurance
  2. Describe the stages of test cycle monitoring
  3. Name ADASP recommendations for quality assurance
  4. Name the Canadian QA guidelines for interpretative pathology
  5. Develop an organized approach to practical quality and patient safety issues pertaining to surgical and cytopathology
