    Dr Jennifer Merrimen

    Dr. Merrimen completed medical school and residency in Anatomical Pathology at Dalhousie University in Halifax, NS. She completed her fellowship in Urologic Pathology at Credit Valley Hospital/McMaster University with Dr. John Srigley. She is an Associate Professor in the Depts of Pathology and Urology at Dalhousie University and has worked as a staff pathologist and consultant uropathologist in Halifax for 14 years. She lives in St Margaret’s Bay, NS with her husband and two teenage children.

Description

The classification of renal cell tumours is constantly evolving thanks to a better understanding of the molecular aspects of these tumours. This lecture will review the recently updated WHO Classification of Kidney Tumours and offer an approach to their diagnosis through a case based presentation.

Objectives:

  • Apply a morphologic and immunohistochemical approach to the diagnosis of renal cell neoplasms.
  • Diagnose less common variants of renal cell neoplasms including new entities recently added to the WHO classification.
  • Diagnose hereditary renal cell carcinoma.
